Witnessing to Love. Bearing the Backlash.
Many Church in Progress peeps are involved in social justice campaigns, advocacy, working for peace … this list goes on. Speaking truth to the powerful can be exhausting and even costly. Even in our own everyday conversations, speaking up against racism, homophobia and sexism – it’s not always easy. We also soon discover that not everyone agrees with us! Sometimes that leads us to questioning our own truths.
In addition, after a victory (like marriage equality) there is often a period of backlash. People may feel threatened or defeated and become even more vocal and aggressive.
This month we’ll look at John 15:18-21 and have a prayerful conversation around speaking our truth. How do we be more like Jesus? When do we speak up, how we speak out and what happens next. How does our relationship with God influence all this?
The activities will start at 4pm in the Good Seeds building on Mervan Street. Please come at 3.30pm if you’d like to help set up. We also have kai at around 5pm – so please bring something to share if you are able.
Save the date and make space to come together for a creative time of sharing, prayer, conversation and food! Saturday 5th May 2018 – 4-6pm. Good Seed building, Mervan Street, Mangere East, Auckland.
Every Church in Progress event has an open invitation. ALL are welcome and celebrated, no matter how you identify.
